Is Huawei stuff dangerous or is it just American paranoia?

I dunno, I don't trust them any more or less than any other manufacturer really.

There's no actual evidence they're bugged or anything like that though; last time the FBI made that claim they said they'd received and tested hardware from AWS and some antivirus companies - all of which later denied providing any hardware to the FBI at all.

Supposedly the betabet agencies are saying that because Huawei will not give them a backdoor

That combined with their executives getting arrested everywhere and the constant lying by said agencies makes me believe Huawei over the FBI

This. We sold our souls and gave up on auditable hardware long ago. I kinda want to buy one just to be edgy.

Apple is pretty much the only hardware maker any more who I remotely think gives a real shit about privacy any more. And that's only because that company is megalomaniacal as a structure. Everything else, assume your shit already belongs to China.

I will say I think librem is smart for going after the price point it does, one occupied by people with enough money to give a fuck. They'll probably get my next laptop purchase and I'll just deal with having to rice it to shit to be nice.

lol almost guaranteed the NSA/MI5/FVEY has backdoors on all the phones you aren't worried about. Equal odds they spread the Huawei thing to discourage you from using phones they don't have easy access to or some shit.

Plus like I mean it's not like you have anything to worry about if you aren't doing anything illegal. lol

The only shot we have at privacy through the whole hardware/software stack is probably this.

I'm talking more about their iOS devices, which use their own chips that are built from the ground up. No doubt govt agencies also have access to them but at least I am pretty sure China doesn't.
