I'm putting aside about a third of it for BTC.

So I can buy drugs with said BTC.

If you don’t buy drugs with it and just wait like 10 years, it’ll be worth one million US dollars

I'm laid off right now (as of like a few weeks ago).

Severance pay ran out, but tax refund came to the rescue.

Plus there's EI (which started next week).

I may just take a whole damn year off.

E.I. stands for Employment Insurance in Canada.

Basically, I paid biweekly premiums with each paycheck towards an insurance pool that pays out if I get laid off (doesn't typically apply when one quits or gets fired).

    Job before was software developer.

That’s a nice little system, way better than the welfare shit we got in the states. Or do you have that up there as well?

Is EI optional or does everyone pay into it?

Paying the government is always optional.

    I did this thread backwards.

I posted first, then read backwards through the replies.

And no one can stop me.

We also have welfare as well.

E.I. is different from welfare as it's a form of insurance. I paid hundreds (maybe thousands? not totally sure) of dollars towards it, and now I can make a claim because I got laid off.

But just like any form of insurance, you get more back than you paid, but that's only because most people don't get laid off all the time.

This is probably the first time in my life I've been officially laid off.

I've quit, been fired, completely stopped going and ignored all phone calls from the company, etc...

But laid off, that's new to me.
