I've spent a lot of time in Chicago and I sincerely hate it. It's not BAD it's just a normal big city. Lots of homeless and beggars around the loop even. You'll see people passed out on the sidewalk just a few blocks from the main metra stations. The pizza is OK, italian beefs are meh. I really like the abundance of hot dogs though.
Public transportation feels sketchy in Chicago as well. Theres some cool shit there for sure. I once took mushrooms at the Shedd aquarium. But generally i just hate any time i have to be in a city, and Chicago is so much of everything i hate. But its not a shitty city exactly.
I hear Detroit is really picking up right now though. -

Detroit is what all of America would be if the democrats had full power at the federal level.
If democrats had power it would be more socialist and the poor wouldn't be as poor.
Look at how much obamacare has helped the American people. Now even the Republicans dont wanna get rid of it lol. Its as popular as social security. -
2019-03-01 at 8:10 PM UTCIt's amazing that Pakistan's commercial center is such a titanic shithole. By contrast Islamabad is the bee's knees.
It was designed by a Greek firm by an architect called Doxiadis, specifically to be a modular, expandable city scheme and intended to be built in a paradisiacal location on a plateau. The entire city is on a grid with a letter/number/subnumber coordinate and address system.
So for example F-10/4 means column F, row 10, then quadrant 4 from the northwest-most point.
If you want to go to H-8/3, well that's 2 across and 2 up, 3rd quadrant.
Then streets are arranged on a sensible grid too.
The entire city is trisected east to west by three major 8-lane roads, and a dozen north-south 6-lane roads. So getting from one place to the other is as simple as hitting the big roads and going in the direction you please, then breaking off where you need to.
Nuke Karachi, rebuild it like Islamabad. -

I was watching some old news segments from around the time some building in Detroit got bombed. The quote was something like, "Next year, Detroit could look like this." And then they showed pictures of Iraq, lol. -

I did 2 Desert Storm tours, one being Iraq & trust me it's not spoken lightly lol. I went to help my family open a business there & literally had to stiff arm walking dead-like dope fiends to get to my vehicle @ night. They lay on the sides of roads w/ stop signs or lights then leap out onto your hood w/ arms' flailing clutching a shitty/oily rag to "clean yer windows sur". -

I've been to some really dilapidated parts of Mexico though. People will sell food out of their house and advertise it with spray paint on their rusted metal fence with barbed wire. There was one bridge over what i can only describe as a river of shit. You could smell it like two blocks away, it was so bad.
If I had to pick a city abroad I'd say Hualien was my least favorite. Very cramped and not a lot to do there besides go to the mountains and hike, which is why i was there in the first place so meh. Didn't spend much time in the city. Should've just stayed closer to the trails in Xincheng or something.
weeds are always greener on the other side i guess. -

Iraq wasn't a "city" it's a village there's a difference son. Kuwait's a "city" I still consider Detroit worse because in Kuwait you had distinct/marked zones where it was normal & others that were volatile. Detroit, the whole set's sketchy even the cops there don't take calls from certain quadrants lol.
I mean modern civilization you don't expect certain elements. W/ 3rd world villages it's fair game, a no judgement zone if you will. -

I didn't say Iraq was a city, OR a village
And yeah, the bar is definitely higher in the US. I've seen some 3rd world shit here as well and I guess it's just a lot more jarring.
Are you the G who always used to be on tinychat? With the big fucking man beard, hairy chest, and gold chains? -

The thread is titled w/ "city" hence my wording. Yes I was a frequent TC user whilest on house arrest lol, beard's much smaller but the affinity for gold chains remains lol. -

Never been to NYC but I agree with everything else. Iowa is a shithole but there are some really nice people there. I kind of love the people of the south and rural midwest. There's a certain charm that people have.
Although I guess people are like that everywhere you go in the world that isn't a total and complete shithole. Something about being around people makes people worse to other people. But give them space and they're the nicest ever.
Every single time I have gotten a ride hitchhiking that was more than an hour, I have been offered food. In America and Taiwan. Not gone hitchhiking elsewhere yet but I bet it'll be the same. -

They're compassionate, yeah. That's a good word for it. Compassionate as hell. But they have nothing to do so they drink and make up stories about each other and live off of gossip about the 500 people currently in their lives and community. It's kind of disgusting. Nothing to do, get in other people's intimate business.
Cities are different. Very few are gonna offer you shit, but ask somebody im rural mw for a ride, or tank of gas, or 5 dollars, and theyll give you 30.
