    The sprout has emerged from a lattice-like structure inside a canister after the Chang'e 4 lander touched down earlier this month, according to a series of photos released by the Advanced Technology Research Institute at Chongqing University. "This is the first time humans have done biological growth experiments on the lunar surface," said Xie Gengxin, who led the design of the experiment, on Tuesday. Plants have been grown previously on the International Space Station, but this is the first time a seed has sprouted on the moon.

    Now they just need some space niggas to harvest it.

    It's not illegal to sprout plants in space. It's only illegal if they claim the land they sprouted it on.

    I believe space is mostly the same as international waters with a few extra responsibility and territory agreements thrown in.

    And it's legal to grow in international waters so long as you aren't XXX kilometers from the border of YYY. Middle of the Pacific Ocean is fine. The South China Sea is probably not. Can't imagine what law would prevent you from growing in space but there may be some astronauts who are not legally allowed to do ZZZ no matter where they are in the universe. Like for example, many Asian countries (like Japan and South Korea) have arrested people who have enjoyed recreational marijuana abroad.

    Could very well be some laws that follow you into space if your nation decides it.
