The Retarded Thread: Sploo Needs Attention

You sort of construct complex data structures by relating less complex structures in your brain. You store "talents" rather than ordered information for the most part.

A simple example is, you probably have no idea wtf the rules of English grammar are but you can form grammatically correct sentences with pretty high reliability.

And yeah I figured, but it was really the only way I could articulate it. I guess I was kind of working on the assumption that because you can assess a human brains number of operations relative to a computer or something, that there's a standard unit of measure.

Update : the tangerines are still relatively unscathed.

You should look into Bayesian models of the brain, it is hard to explain as I am not familiar with neuroscience literature much yet, but I do kinda get it. The information doesn't need to be "there" to "be" there.

I have a theory that Alzheimer's isn't really a disease at all. Not like aids or cancer or the like. I reckon it could be the result of the subjects memory getting full. Kinda like how a computer starts fucking up when the hard drive becomes full. Our brains are a kind of biological computer after all, there are certain similarities to how they both work.

That wouldn’t be correct Narc. Images of an Alzheimer’s brain shows severe atrophy of the brain.

    You are completely incorrect.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading earlier that Alzheimer's is the result of proteins- plaques in the brain that result when neural connections die, essentially swell up, form proteins and enzymes and then burst. And those proteins and enzymes from that neuron death impair cognition in really profound ways.

Anyone telling you they know the causal mechanism of Alzheimer's is lying.

I haven't been this fascinated by shit, and able to actually follow along with medical journals and stuff....in years. whether I actually retain anything remains to be be seen. But it's startling how different my body and mind feel in the last few days, and the way I've felt for years. It's like switching on a light. Really really strange. I've been thinking a lot about major depression as a neurodefenerative disease.

Me too actually. I've been spiraling downwards inexplicably. I am still hesitant to take prescription depression medication though.

Anti-depressants are nootropic and seem perfect for dealing with the modern world.

    Caused by what?

The brain's garbage collection stops working - some enzyme protein unwinds, and the brain fills up with literal physical crud.

It's disgusting to have to deal with, I hate talking to people with alzheimer's so much.

Maybe that was just neurodegeneration in general. What seems to distinguish them seems to be degree of severity and faculties effected.

Ditto. Maybe partially bc being raised in a faith healing religion makes me automatically skeptical of the efficacy of certain shit. And two, I'm a pessimist, and having been through a whole lot of heroin withdrawal, the prospect of rebound depression when going OFF of a lot of these medications- makes me kinda wary. And I guess then there's the perception that the only people who take shit like that are all crazy, dramatic, unstable weirdos. Family stigma.

It's definitely something to look into. I've really only recently come to acknowledge the fact that antidepressants might be useful to me. I mean if weed or diet or exercise or whatever will have results, I'm happy to do that. It doesn't have to be as simple as a pill. But yeah, I mean the body is a machine. Shit sometimes needs fixing. Shit gets out of equilibrium. I can't think of any rational reason not to explore anything that might improve your quality of life.

We don't know the cause, we do know it's not because your brain gets full, because your brain is not a bucket.

Thats really not what I was implying.

Your brain doesn't store information and fill up like a computer either. See my previous posts. It certainly has finite capacity but everything we know and do isn't stored as a discrete file. It's more like a setting. Alzheimer's patients regularly have more "capacity" than other people who don't suffer memory loss but have suffered brain damage.

You're assuming you're previous posts are actually factual?

See what I said about arrogance?

Exercising, eating a bunch of acid, molly and sushi, and a decent amount of unprotected dating app sex over the past 3 months has really mostly kept the depression away. Can't recommend this regimen enough.
