The Retarded Thread: Sploo Needs Attention

I wonder if there's a way to quantify the max amount of information...should've been some quotation marks there you dickhead iPad. But I wonder if it's possible to quantify how much can be written to the average human brain? And then what parts of older memories go first when things are rewritten? Like what's the least important sense data of a memory? Is it less important to know what something actually looked like? Is smell or sound layer more vital to memory than touch? Idk.

HOW CAN YOU KNOW ALL THE THINGS? ISNT THAT DEPRESSING?

I also watched a bunch of videos on Aum shinrikyo. That shit is a fucking trip.

I guess it's just interesting to think about the progression of idealistic social and political movements. What was the straw that finally broke the camels back to go from like a yoga based self help group, to "ok now we''re murdering people and manufacturing sarin nerve agent." Why? I mean why not, right? If you've got billions of dollars and a bunch of livestock that's just sitting around doing nothing being alive, why not start producing and testing biological weapons? I mean some people take up needlepoint or salsa dancing...some people leave a bunch of people flopping around foaming at the mouth in train stations. Tomatoe/ toematoh.

Fuck. This times a thousand is probably what schizophrenia feels like. Fuck that noise.

I bought a 5lb bag of those easy peel clementine tangerines.

This might have been a grievous error in judgement.

    Only time will tell.

    E: in b4 I eat 5lb of tangerines.

U prolly ate too much kale, nigga. Dont tempt fate, you spicy paki daredevil, you.

I actually have been eating like ass and neglecting greens and fruits. But that's nothing new, I don't wake up feeling impending doom usually.

Well you can quantify information, period, because that's a real thing, and you can apply that number to the brain too. But that doesn't mean it is neurally accessible "information". In terms of accessibility, the way memory and cognition works is ridiculously complex, I've been interested in the subject and studying it recently but it is unbelievably complex.

Yeah I mean what coherent system would you use to express it though? And how many tasks as involved as say- graduating from a basic EMT training course, or becoming proficient in a particular programming language- are you able to absorb before you have to start cannibalizing old information? Surely there's a point (although it's probably a theoretical limit in most cases) where the brains infrastructure just can't support it.

It's not "smart" to always question the enterprise of what is happening rather than immersing yourself in the endeavour. It is like people who go into a movie looking to be disappointed, because that's how they get pleasure, by shitting on things to make their lives seem less pathetic.

    Also your video won't play.

Also, I think people shit on a lot of things because they want to think themselves exceptional. I mean there are cases where it's warranted, but for the most part it's just self congratulatory. Just yet one more thing that didn't meet my exacting standards. Then again...it's silly but it really took me a long time to realize and be comfortable with liking a thing, instead of having to evaluate whether I was going to gain or lose points for giving said thing she my stamp of approval. I think it's just a part of maturing, too.

You'd be surprised at how much that type of talk doesn't actually apply to the function of the brain. Our brains don't actually store very much discrete, raw data (comparatively speaking). The thing that makes it so ridiculously powerful is that most of cognition is "relational". You sort of construct complex data structures by relating less complex structures in your brain. You store "talents" rather than ordered information for the most part.

A simple example is, you probably have no idea wtf the rules of English grammar are but you can form grammatically correct sentences with pretty high reliability.
  17. Loing African Astronaut
I suppose you could quantify how many total connections are in your brain, but that would literally only account for one "tick" at a time, and the number would go up exponentially with each "tick".
  18. CASPER Soldier of Fourchin
I guess that true. Trying to calculate the storage size of a given memory would be- ridiculously complex.

It is very weird, I don't know what the fuck is actually happening. I don't have any reason to be upset or stressed. But I felt doom. I only settled a little in the past 3ish hours

    🥺

Many of the tasks you mentioned would probably use overlapping talents, so in that example, it depends on the nature of the specific task, it's possible you could store 1000 jobs similar to EMT work by reusing common structures between them. At the same time, your brain doesn't have a mechanism to "jettison" data, certain information just becomes irrelevant and those neural firings just don't ever happen again, or the neural paths needed to make them are just not there any more.

One fact that kinda blows my mind to think about and is very relevant is that every possible state of knowledge and information about the universe that you know or could ever know about, has a complete representational state in your brain. Everything, every aspect of your reality, your brain has to be able to construct it in connections between existing hardware. Even new connections are formed by relation to existing connections. With such a broad possibility set, "storing information" in the brain appears to be a matter of having the right settings to send an electrical pulses down the right pathway in just the right way.
