    Anyway, the game of chess does in fact bestow meaningful life skills and has been empirically shown to increase cognitive function, which is the reason that it has been preserved for so long. As I'm sure you know since your rating is 1900, it was originally taught to princes by an instructor whose only job in the court was to teach chess. The reason this was so is because it not only develops strategical thinking but has also been shown to improves pattern recognition, reading skills, coping skills, social intelligence, critical thinking skill, and even imagination.
