Is college really worth the cost? Finishing with five and sometimes six figure debt?

2018-08-30 at 2:41 PM UTCEducation, at any level, doesn't equate to knowledge or intelligence.
However, education, at any level is extremely important in these days and times.
(Side story: My next-to-youngest granddaughter just graduated from high school in May. She began her education on Monday by beginning her college level education.
She came in from her first day of class and told her mother and I about her day. She said she thinks that older men are looking at her (she's 17). I asked her to explain what she meant by 'older men' and she replied, "Oh, you know, twenty-five, thirty."
Laughing, I said, "Oh, my!"
My granddaughter then stated, "Those are the profs!"
Look out all you "old men". There is a new generation afoot.) -

Um well yes it equates to knowledge..that's what knowledge is, learned/gained/stored information.
If you are educated on a subject you are knowledgeable on it...if you are not knowledgeable on a subject you are uneducated on the subject...duh. -

I am begging to differ with you.
Were you or I to receive the same knowledge, at the same time, from the same source, we would not, effectively, realize that 'book learned knowkedge' until we had tested (experienced) that knowledge for ourselves.
To do otherwise is to rely, solely, on the knowledge and experience of another. -

You don't receive "the knowledge", you receive the "education"...the knowledge is a result of the education. Duh...You can't be knowledgeable about something without first being educated on it. -

That is just flat-out incorrect.
You (inclusive) may have knowledge of 'a thing' and not be "educated" on it.
(Akin to a sexual virgin.
Their parent may have given them the 'knowledge' of the birds and bees but the 'experience' of the sexual act is not achieved until the virgin has experienced the 'knowledge' and may no longer be a virgin.) -

Again knowledge is a result of education, you can't be knowledgeable about something without first being educated on it...be that formally or informally or simply learning it yourself.(Akin to a sexual virgin.

Um non sequitur...if you are educated on sex and knowledgeable on sex, you don't have to have sex to know what goes where and the process involved. Just as if I teach you how to hammer a nail into a piece of wood, you don't have to do it to understand the process required...you watch and learn and listen...THEN when you have that knowledge you attempt to put it into action. You still have the knowledge of how to do it, just not the best technique experience to achieve a good result.
That experience simply equates to adding to your already existing knowledge. I think you are confused again..being knowledgeable on a subject doesn't mean you know everything there is to know about it...or that there isn't room to learn more. -
2018-08-30 at 3:48 PM UTCI'm very capable of learning about anything myself. I don't need somebody else to tell me about it first.

2018-08-30 at 5:45 PM UTCI understand your need to try and defend your stupidity but there comes a point when the little voices in your head should say "Hey numbnuts, you're beat...move on and stop digging the hole you're in deeper!"

When they can't offer a valid counter argument they will begin demeaning and name-calling.
Point proven. -

You seem to know a lot about knowledge sir. Would you take a moment to enlighten a poor and ignorant man of Athens such as myself as to the nature of knowledge? Specifically, can you confirm that indeed knowledge is synonymous with "learned/gained/stored information"? -

2018-08-31 at 5:32 PM UTCIt’s worth it if you get a degree in something viable.
That 60k degree in art history or gender studies is fucktarded... -
2018-10-10 at 9:57 PM UTCGo to college like Lanny and end up making in the $100k range, or don't go and be lik me making $35k and taking risks to live like Lanny but still falling short.
This year I'm up like $15k-$20k but I'm hoping to up it.
The moral of my story, there is no moral to my story. But be more like Lanny to win on life. -

I remember on totse Lanny was crazy into coding and the like. It was really boring stuff.
But that's what blew up - and I bet he'd be as successful without college.
OTOH I have an Honours Degree and, at the end of the month, a Higher Diploma, both the same level and in sought after fields (though from shitty colleges) and can't find a decent job.
I honestly believe that Degrees are not enough by themselves. Though they don't hurt. -

Some areas require degrees though.
