Yes, and I absolutely love my profession. I have worked for 2 of the largest hospitals in the US, talk about talking hundreds of thousands of x-rays on people. I figured it around a quarter mill.
I don’t care to discuss my income, but i know in Cali they make close to $100,000.00. There’s a shortage of techs right now, so I’m getting calls and emails from head hunters to do contract work out there. Im happy where I am, I still get to teach.
Never worried about my exposure. I wear my badge and I’ve never had any reading above “shallow” in 32 years; and I’ve worked in fluoroscopy and in the OR where you are standing in contact didactic x-ray. I know about radiation protection and I utilize it. -

I was told "Go into nuclear medicine" still don't know what exactly that has to do with being an xray technician. -

You asked if I know what radiation and chemo do to a person’s bones. It is my job to know what every pathology does to the body and bones, so I know what type of penetration to chose from my x-ray machine.
Emphysema makes the lungs less dense, I use less kVp. Osteopetrosis makes bones hard as rocks, I use more kVp.
Cancer treatments weakens the bones and makes them much less dense, I use less kVp.

Nuclear medicine is considered as part of imaging services therefore they are usually considered part of radiology. There use to be a time when you had to go to radiology technology school first, and then go into nuclear medicine. I do believe you can now go to a Nuc Med program without your RT.
The big bucks is in Nuc Med. They’re doing PET scans in Nuc Med now, that is so interesting to me. -

I heard the job market is terrible, but more importantly I decided that I hate caring for other people. I worked at an LTC for two years and wanted to die doing that. No.
I thought at first RT would be something better that I could plug my medical credits into, but I think if one doesn't enjoy working with patients at all, it won't really matter the extent of care one is providing for them.
Anyway, is it not true then that they're pumping out too many grads? I worked with a girl who just graduated and says she can't find a job, but I don't think she's really looking to move, and she's waiting for the local hospital to call her when there's a job opening. Which is retarded of her. -
