So the dollar a day thing is hyperbole. Basically, you can negotiate with the hospital and see what's the lowest payment they'll take before having to forward the debt to collections, but I'm willing to bet $50 a month, as you pay, is as low as they generally want to go. -

you should get paid to be hospitalized, otherwise doctors would be out of work. -

Yes probably (the $1). That conversation with him though did lead to me negotiating my bill to the $50 a month. I was bitching to him about the bill I got and he told me the dollar thing and told me to call them and tell them what I could afford to pay.
..I'd have probably paid it all off in full otherwise, $50 a month doesn't hurt at all...paying X number of thousands in one go would have.
They bitched and moaned about the $50 and I was insistent (as per my buddy telling me to be)...she then said she's have to get it authorized by her manager and she'd call me back, which she did 20 mins later and said "ok". -

yea...you can file a police report about anything you want.
doesnt mean the cops wont toss it right into the shredder in front of your face -
2018-08-21 at 10:37 PM UTCYou could get a sworn affidavit and send that in to the billing provider, and indicate intent to sue.

about 13yrs ago my g/f of the time ODed…I called an ambulance for her and she ended up in ICU for 7 days …she was pretty much comatose the whole time and a hospital financial person came around talking to me, I told them she had no money and they gave me a bunch of forms to get "assistance" for her…after she was better we filled the forms out and sent them in…they replied with "send a check for $1000 as your part of the settlement, you have 7 days to respond or we'll take it as you are assuming all the debt", She wrote back "I don't have $1000".
Never heard from them again..and it never showed up on her credit…they basically let a $100k+ hospital bill go…or someone fucked up royally on their end.
