   I almost got my ass kicked by a bunch of asians at work because I referred to the engineering department as "a bunch of mongs" not realizing that asians take that as an insult
   
   It was made worse by the fact that they're Hmong, a type of Asian and they thought I was using the race as an insult
   
   I had to explain the original meaning of mongoloid, how it went from a valid medical term to an insult, and how it got shortened to mong and entered common vernacular as a synonym for "idiot"
