There are a million things we say we will or won’t do when it comes to raising kids.........then it mostly goes out the window. Kids are born with their own personality, each child is raised differently.

If I ever have a kid the lesson I want to teach them is that the "work hard to get ahead" meme is a scam foisted upon americans to extract labor from them. My kid would be the beneficiary of the last remnant of the upwardly mobile middle class in the US and needs to be taught that they never need to work because they won some bizarre lottery, to neither regret their good fortune nor grown vain under its shadow. To appreciate the absurdity of their existence but not to squander it in toil by confusing work for moral fiber.
Basically I want my child to be a trustfund kid who makes shitty plays no one likes but they find deeply meaningful.

Kindness. Even if it means taking a literal dick in the ass, my children will be expected to be accepting and open to other cultures. And, while not a communist myself, I will expect them to be feverishly communistic because despite my own shortcomings I do believe in the power of the workers and think that my children will be able to create the utopian society modern communists only dream of. And of course, since I can't have children, they will be black adopted babies and I will expect them to embrace their blackness and their heritage and fight against white oppression with as much passion as they'll be expected to fight bourgeoisie oppession.

You actually don't worry about it hon. We'll go kid shopping on Sunday and discuss it then. When you see some of the kids I have lined up, you're going to fall in love, I just know it.

We could fly your parents out now and then, let them spend some time with their granddaughter. Maybe take a few days and do all the dumb tourist stuff with them, ride bikes across the bridge or something. Think how proud of you they'd be.
