Yes but the significance of those brain cells is really subjective according to how you interpret various philosophies into your working model of life.
Is it a waste of a man's time to circlejerk for months on end? Possibly but if you consider the true purpose of our species is to simply breed and survive then you might think anything outside of basic survivalism is a waste of a man's time.
But then we must consider the nature of time itself. Can something that flows endlessly be wasted? And if we are reincarnated then no time was wasted because we were building up our karma in preparation for a rebirth, and living a noble humble life where you sip tea and discuss issues is good karma.
