Help my recover the data on my 64GB flash drive
-
2015-09-03 at 6:50 AM UTCI have a 64GB Lexar flash drive and I store basically files that I download and install on my PCs. I have another backup on a 32GB flash drive but it got filled up and this was the main one with the newer stuff. I must have no dismounted it fully before unplugging it. I get this error message but I haven't really tried anything with it yet.
Error mounting /dev/sdd1 at /media/user/a: Command-line `mount -t "ntfs" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,dmask=0077,fmask=0177" "/dev/sdd1" "/media/user/a"' exited with non-zero exit status 13: $MFTMirr does not match $MFT (record 0).
Failed to mount '/dev/sdd1': Input/output error
NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation
for more details.
What can I do? -
2015-09-03 at 6:52 AM UTCObviously I could follow those instructions, but is that what I should do or is there a better option?

2015-09-03 at 12:32 PM UTCI remember a while ago i had a hardrive that was acting up so i got the tool TestDisk to recover the data. It's a command line utility and pretty straight forward to use, i couldn't tell you exactly which steps to follow since it's been a while but as i remember it, it was pretty much self-explanatory.

They have some documentation on that site as well which you can reference while working the tool. -
2015-09-03 at 4:09 PM UTCYes, TestDisk is the best for forensic data recovery.
-
2015-09-03 at 4:11 PM UTCTry adding a new boot record using TestDisk first.
-
2015-09-03 at 9:24 PM UTCSo TestDisk is for Linux? I think you(Spec) suggested it a while back but I never got it running. I'll look when I get home.
