ITT: Lanny apologizes to -SpectraL for years of administrative abuse
-
2018-04-08 at 7:48 PM UTCIn case anyone does actually care about the finny incident the rule he broke was indeed the intentional disruption one. I warned him in thread and by PM several times.
I'd like to point out he was not banned for insulting me. I said in that thread that he's free to call me what ever name he wants, as is everyone (a liberty oft exercised), I simply require name calling to either be accompanied by on-topic posting or put in the appropriate forum. There's this pattern where on the rare occasion I warn someone to stop doing something they respond with "you're fat/ugly/incompetent" and continue what they were doing, so I ban them. In all cases this is because they didn't stop what I asked them to stop, not that they said something bad about me or about people I get along with on the forums.
There is one criticism ITT which has some validity, which is that enforcement of the rules isn't always consistent, which I'll own. As I've said elsewhere, I don't read every thread on this site. I can't. I will very occasionally moderate threads I'm posting in because I see them but even then I tend to let them go where people take them, partly because I think that's the culture, and partly because any moderation action will generate backlash and it only serves to further derail things. So the way it plays out is I'll generally do nothing, and wait for someone to actively declare they don't want their thread to go off track before taking action. It's not an ideal setup, but I think it's generally worked so far. The only alternative I can see is starting to appoint mods, which is something I'm open to discussing but that has its own set of drawbacks.

I’m cool with it, I just wanna know so that I gender him/her/xim/xe/etc correctly when speaking. I don’t want to offend anyone.
Lanny settle this once and for all, what gender and sexual orientation do you identify with
Benny seems to think I'm female for some reason, I'm not sure why. Others may do it on occasion jokingly because I did pretend to be a girl on zoklet for a fairly long time, that story has been bounding around and retold god only knows how many times.

We don’t all live and breath this website 24/7 like you do
It's like you're psychic

What was your username on the website, totse.com?
The funny thing is that spectral actually posts from his home IP addr, despite trying oh so hard to give the impression that he's behind 7 proxies. -
2018-04-08 at 7:52 PM UTCThat’s cool, but are you gay or straight or what

2018-04-08 at 7:55 PM UTCLet’s talk about opening mod positions. I’ll take the “Latest Threads” subforum. Spectral can have Mongolvoid

2018-04-08 at 8:05 PM UTCMaybe we just need to add an addendum to rule #2 on the about page that says something like "if you are trying to have a serious discussion and your thread is being derailed, contact Lanny."
And maybe we need a "shitposting free zone" icon that will appear next to thread title if it's a serious discussion
It's not ideal but I'd say that we have serious discussions rarely enough for it to work -
2018-04-08 at 8:07 PM UTCWho decides it’s a serious thread or not? The OP? No fuck that, I like the way we do it now.
-
2018-04-08 at 8:13 PM UTC^that pretty much is the way we do it now, it would just be more open and obvious
Personally, I don't want mods at all unless the site grows to be too much work for Lanny to handle himself -
2018-04-08 at 8:20 PM UTCITT: a pace set to break zanick's 1,000 post meat bread. Guy's killing it.

2018-04-08 at 9:02 PM UTCHear that? Lanny says you can have someone banned for calling you mean names if they're not on topic. He really has no idea how stupid and ludicrous that sounds. Most excuses make no sense, and this excuse doesn't make sense either.

You mean like this one, coward?

2018-04-08 at 10:58 PM UTCSpectral literally never lets up. No matter how many times he's proved wrong or no matter how many times his lies are exposed he will just keep on keeping on. So with that in mind Spectral. You are a huge faggot, and i will now continue to ignore you in peace.

I was gonna say that. But just didn't bother.
I've called him out like 4 times ITT with some irrefutable shit and his response is always just like "nice try kiddo". Lol he's delusional as hell -

In all seriousness, I really do appreciate your willingness to acknowledge a potential flaw in the present arrangement. Despite minor inconsistencies, I think it's working out pretty well. You're still the only administrator, but you give the position daily attention - something we never came to expect of Zok, or Jeff Hunter - all without letting the usual suspects do exactly what happened on Sancutary and RDFRN.
As for moderators, I just can't see it with the size of our current user base. It's small and everybody knows each other. On the other hand, we might benefit from the added enforcement, which would likely relieve you entirely of that burden and allow you to either take it easy or work on other administrative goals. If mods would sponsor some minimal content and lead in their respective subs, that could be conducive to the membership growth we'd like to see. -
