   There's a weakness in some of the old rolling-code logic chips, MAYFAIR or something from memory that allows you to essentially guess what the next code will be if you send it specific incorrect codes (I've never looked into it in detail but I believe the sequence can be partially derived from the last code received).
   
   Modern cars (last 5-10 years or so) will use bluetooth or a custom implementation of it, so authentication is a completely different story.

    Correct. Bluetooth based. Must be within roughly 50ft of target vehicle. Randomized codes, but apparently there is software the essentially brute forces the code. I'd like to try that.
