afghanistan (US and USSR time-frames) : the afgahns then and now are free to bear stingers and sling RPGs on their shoulders and also pretty free to accessorize their toyota hilux trucks with AA machine guns, rocket launchers and howitzers and what not. americans are however ... NOT.
2 - ireland : still a british territory and the best, glaring example of how genitally mutilated freedom to bear arms stifled their resistance. they just didnt have the answers for when the brits came in their tanks and gunships and APCs. they surrendered in the 90s.
3 - the battle of athens : i didnt know about this but a quick ducking revealed that this was an exception rather than a norm due to two things :
a - it happened in 1946, at a time where the great wars had just ended, government were poor and all the money and materials had been spent in the war and everybody was just coming out of ration. and the complete lack of military industrial complex.
b - the returning men and armament of war landed on the side of civilians. according to wikipedia, they won becos they out gunned the government forces.
the scenarios today however ... are pretty different. -
