I don't know why vertical videos like that upset me so much. Also the need to record everything, jesus fucking christ. All traumatized and in tears and yelling OH MAH GAWD but god forbid you stop recording and looking at the world through a phone screen. God forbid your classroom asspie with the machine gun decides you're an easy target because you're more interested in your stupid phone than in your actual environment.

Nah it's true, but to be fair I'm sure it was like 1% of students that actually instinctively took their phones out to record, and so far only that 1 that I've seen that was snapchatting mid-shooting.
Agreed on vertical video but it's just so natural. The real fix would just be for cells to eliminate that option, or make horizontal the default, even if you're holding the phone vertically. For shame. -

Are you fucking retarded? Do you really think it's a bad thing that these kids thought to document the event, for whatever reason? If anything, this is the best thing about the cell phone age, as it is the worst: we've never had this type of event documented in such detail. The problem is when it's used as violenceporn by the media rather than simply being used to investigate the event.

The solution is square sensors in phones + software solutions that automatically zoom the image to fit your screen orientation. At that point it wouldn't matter which way you turn your phone, all the image data is retained and can be viewed whichever way your retarded ass sees fit, or you could turn off the zoom option and see the whole square image. -

The problem is that you have to either increase the overall sensor area by a considerable amount (greater cost, harder engineering with OIS platform and optics, more resources needed to resolve the image) or lose imaging area and quality to "asquarify it" and end up with a lower resolution/smaller pixel size which ever way you crop it.
Currently most sensors are either 16:9 or 4:3 format. I'll use a 4:3 sensor to illustrate the point. This is how most camera sensors are shaped:
Now to make it square, you have two options. Option 1 is to make it bigger vertically:
Option 2 is to "crop it down"
And finally, what everyone wants are rectangular photos, not square photos. The camera has to not only take videos but photos as well, in fact photos are the primary use. As a result, the extra real estate would basically be wasted, and it's a solution that's only use is to account shit retards who hold their phones vertically.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -
