As residential windmill jedi, 'Holland' was never a country. It's always been a province, right after we kicked some Spanish ass the country was known as The Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. Which had Holland as a province. So "The Netherlands" is the shorthand of the old name proper. The new name is "The Kingdom of the Netherlands". Holland is still a province, well, two actually, the North and South variants. Before that we were under Spanish subjugation and were a territory of Spain the name of which escapes me. -

DW correspondent Columbus Mavhunga and Fadzi Gari from the local VFM radio, were severely beaten up by soldiers in the night of Tuesday, 15 November. They had responded to a press briefing invitation which turned out to be a hoax at the army barracks. Other journalists had also received the message, but were suspicious of the source. The area where the supposed press conference was to be held was a high security area, which is only accessible to military personnel.
