I wasn't close to this guy but I do admit that he was overweight, had bad teeth, not very good looking, and of course, he worked in retail. So in a way, I can almost see why he did it. I think if he had started working out, eating healthy, maybe push his career path a little more, he would have ended up in a happier situation. I obviously wouldn't say this to anyone that knew him or any of my co-workers, but just something to put out there.

Did you feel guilty or personally responsible (even though you clearly weren't), and if so how long did it take to move on/feel better?

Were you close to the coworker?

Did it affect you significantly? If so, would you say it made you more angry or depressed?

What about your other coworkers? How did they react to it?

    Just out of curiosity

    Sure, I can elaborate.

I don't know if he left a note. I didn't hear of one if he did.

It was interesting because literally the days before it happened, we had talked and my observation was that he intended on living. His boss got a call over the weekend from someone saying that this guy drove out somewhere pretty far away (can't remember where) by himself and killed himself. I don't remember all the specifics and how he was found, but I believe he shot himself.

I didn't feel guilty or personally responsible for his suicide. The best descriptor would probably be puzzled.

I wasn't close to the guy on a personal level, but I did work closely with him. As far as how it affected me, I did feel a small bit of guilt, even though I said I didn't feel guilty for his suicide. So this guy was genuinely nice, but I always got this "off" feeling about him. I remember gossiping about some of his odd quirks with co-workers, which is what made me feel guilty and probably makes me a bad person. The things that seemed off to me were his eyes and his smile.

When he would talk to someone, including myself, he smiled a lot. Even if there wasn't anything to be smiling about. And it was one of those big full-face smiles. His eyes were also in an expression of surprise when we talked. They would be opened really wide, he would lock his eye contact with yours, and he wouldn't blink. I'm not convinced those were "signs" of anything, but I remember feeling guilty for the gossip.

Some of my co-workers who had gotten close to him took it hard. One thing they did to remember him is wear a tie on Tuesday for a year. That was another of his quirks. We have a business casual environment and nobody wears a tie unless they are going to a funeral, interviewing for a job, or coming in from the outside for something like a consultant. This guy would wear a tie every Tuesday for no reason other than he wanted to. He had some name for it like Tie Tuesday. So that's what they did to remember him.

It would be good to know if it was a hanging, a shooting, a gassing, a jump, or an overdose, though.

That's nice. It's bittersweet an abstract sort of feel.

I don't know but I don't think he was the gun type. I'm guessing a hanging.

didn't you say he drove out a long way somewhere? seems odd for a hanging. maybe fed a pipe from his tail pipe to his car maybe sounds more feasible.

Most suicides are murders that the FBI covers up.

I knew a guy once who was so determined, he finally drowned himself in a child's water pail.

I used to work with this chick who was kinda ugly and had low self esteem. She couldn't find a lot of guys who wanted to fuck her I guess and would sometimes seem kinda upset or down but not really say shit except the occasional complaint. Once I was opening with only me and her there for like the first 2 hours of the morning and the place was closed because we were doing some cleaning or some shit, and she started asking me like if I'd ever had sex at work and if I ever would and stuff and I didn't want to so I was kinda just like uhhhh no.

Then like a year later she hanged herself, I felt kinda bad but like w/e, what can I do about it you know, I HAVE THE RIGHT TO HAVE SEX WITH WHO I WANT.

Yours. I'd feel so terrible. I'm very bad at rejecting people.

It would be awkward trying to gauge the level of giving a fuck you should appear to have. Cause if someone killed themselves then in a way, good for them? also I don't know them like that.
