Just Found Out That A Co-Worker Killed Himself

So there was a meeting, but I didn't go as usual, but I later found out that he off'd himself. I use to occasionally walk by the guy and joke with him. He seemed like a nice guy.

I know that if I had been the one that killed myself, no one would give a shit. People would laugh and there wouldn't be a meeting.

I remember a time when I was younger, when I realized that no one cared about me. That was when I decided that being a peice of shit was one way to relieve emotional stress. It seemed to have worked because I'm still here.

    That's all for now.

Weird. It's strange, the way life allows someone to enter or leave yours.

I experienced that once. It causes you to replay all of your interactions and see if you missed something. I can still see his face and it's been several years.

when i was a kid i went to army cadets. there was this girl that went, she was alright, good looking and pretty sociable and seemed pretty happy. we went one night and got told she was found hanging in her garage. i think her name was whitney iirc, or summing like that.

    Could you elaborate on this?

What happened? Did he mention work in his note, if he left one?

Did you feel guilty or personally responsible (even though you clearly weren't), and if so how long did it take to move on/feel better?

Were you close to the coworker?

Did it affect you significantly? If so, would you say it made you more angry or depressed?

What about your other coworkers? How did they react to it?

    Just out of curiosity

Funny, I think about kind of the reverse sometimes. Like interactions I've had that were indicative of something that I haven't realized yet. My primary school principal was tried for looking at child porn and wasn't convicted but it was well understood he was guilty, prosecution just botched discovery six ways to sunday. My mom and everyone's parents were careful to never mention it and somehow got me and all my classmates going to another school without anyone realizing what was up until a couple of years later. It's wierd how when something just drops out of your life and for some reason no one brings up the fact that it's actually gone it can sorta seem like it never existed. I sometimes wonder if there have been people I've know who I assumed I just lost contact with who actually died. Who knows if Joe that you sorta knew just stopped going to the same coffee shop or if he hung himself.

yeah life is funny like that. i wonder just how many people the average person gets to know in one form or another over a lifetime. it must be in the hundreds of thousands at least.
