   I tend to agree at the highschool level. I signed up for it because teaching is typically a significant part of doctorate/post doc programs, wanted to see how tolerable it is before going down that road. That said though, I think that piece of folk wisdom sells the complexity of effective pedagogy well short. You probably find lower levels of performance of X among teachers of X than at the top of the commercial sector in capitalist societies but teaching a thing and executing a thing are very different activities.
