There are a number of chemical reasons why this "tastes better", but in essence, your body is designed to "enjoy" (i.e. incentivize the consumption of) certain foods because in ye older the olde times, they were highly valuable for survival reasons.

I beg to differ. I will decide which side my bread slice is, not you. I actually put the butter on the knife, then pull the bread slice, upside down, over the butter, several times, until the slice is completely coated. Then I eat the slice upside down. I've been doing it this way all my life. -
