I'm a bit unhealthy due to ales and cigs, but the nonetheless have still always managed to maintain a level of athletic ability and prowess. I can fight on.

I was at a lake a few days ago, taking a little dip, and decided I needed to swim out to the little buoy that marks where you can swim to. It looks a lot closer than it is, so it probably took me about 5 minutes to swim out to it.

Of course at this point I'm now getting tired and I am at the farthest point from the beach. I try hanging into the buoy to regain some energy but it's almost not worth it and I just know I need to start swimming back or I might in fact drown.

The water was all choppy, I was going against the tide, so even when I put short bursts of energy into trying to cover some distance, I was hardly getting anywhere.

At one point I actually did start to panick, my arms were getting that tired and my poor cardio was catching up. I T was trying to tread water and float on my back to conserve energy, but the water kept splashing into my mouth and made things even more difficult. At this point I seriously considered yelling out for help, but resisted because I'd rather drown than be the guy who needed help to not drown.

Fortunately I caught a second desperation wind and doggy paddled the final stretch back. When I could touch the lake floor again I think I cried sweet relief, then went and laid on the sand for 2 hours catching my breath. :)

I've been doing planks for days. 1:15 front plank, 1:15 on each side plank, decrease my 15 seconds and repeat for 1 minute on each side, then 45 seconds, then 30 seconds, then 15. Yesterday I did 2 sets of that, that's 24 minutes of planks.

    snore.

the following happened outside the view of shore or with shore barely visible on the horizon, and while wearing only a wetsuit.

    - one time the lifeguards came out with a jet ski and made me come back...even after I tried to get away. then the bitch idled behind me while I swam back to shore.

    - one time the coast guard had a ship circling around looking for me...but it was after I already was back on shore. a cop told me someone had reported someone drowning.

    - one time a really big boat...I'd guess 60' or so...pulled up nearby asking if I was okay

Your lungs will feel a lot better if you push through it, and cravings are temporary. View resisting the craving as an exercise in mental strength, and every time you get through it will make you stronger

You want a gnarly current to swim against? go swim in the Oakland Estuary. that fucker has layers of undertows. Or Ocean Beach if you're real insane (San Francisco) you get caught in a rip current you have to swim parallel to the beach, but few people make it. More drown than not. I've swam Oakland Estuary a few times.. the object is to not let your feet drop and best to do long strokes.

I haven't swam in years. I would die if I jumped into the estuary. it's not safe to do. not to mention it's a sewage runoff. it's probably like swimming in the east river of NYC. just not as wide.

One of the other most dangerous spots to swim in California is Russian River. people die in that thing every year from undertows to that of quicksand. that's the river that runs next to Bohemian Grove that Alex Jones crossed to get into the Grove. but in the summer it's not moving so fast.

    Anywho.

PS now that I think about it, don't swim the oakland estuary I spoke of (if in the bay area).. they have dregged it out a lot deeper so it's pretty much deadly at this point to swim in. if you challenge it.. you're dumb if you don't have a life-preserve wrapped around your head. which probably wouldn't save you either.

it's funny where I live all the beaches have 'rip current' warning signs everywhere like it's some sort of disaster waiting to happen. I specifically look for the rip currents then it's like a free ride. I've been in some that were so fast it was like I was being pulled along with a diving scooter.

some surfers use them to tow out to sea. the problem with Northern Cali vs Florida (I would think) is the water is way fucking colder and there are shitloads of rough edge rocks to get dragged through.

the water has been pretty cold several times I've been out. there are plenty of rocks and outcroppings of various types of shit...and even holes that people fall into and drown.
