   Well, when the browser sends a request to the server to display the avatar, the server performs the request just as much as the browser. For example, the browser could request an avatar that is 10x12, but the server will not permit requests of 10x12 from that particular device/browser, so it converts the request to 12x10 instead, which is permitted. Something like that.

   That still doesn't explain why I can use the same browser that doesn't render the image properly via the BBS to view the image directly in it's correct format. I understand what you're driving at, but the server is rendering the image just fine.
