actors do this but i dont know if they do it methodically/systematically or just on impulse, and they may not have the same ability to read the same microexpressions in other people.

btw saying you can significantly (slightly is of course possible, there's a learning curve that plateaus) increase intelligence scores by practicing would be the same as saying you can significantly increase your intelligence by practicing, since besides the low-complexity variants which tend to be redundant, it is literally assessing pure processing load, you can't improve processing load without literally upgrading the CPU.

The same is true for aspies, but I don't know PoC well enough and I don't know if you see similarities in him, think of him this way.

I took it on my own accord and scored a 33. I've been doing a lot of reading on adult autism lately and a lot makes sense, even more sense than the stuff I read about borderline personality disorder. I feel very weird about accepting a diagnosis but it would make sense, I've always had very poor social skills with impulsive outbursts and such, and odd repetitive behaviors with fear or deviation from set repetition. I've been struggling with the idea of being autistic a lot lately, been very dissociated and distant, wanting to drink a lot and be alone. I don't want to feel like I'm inferior and stuck there but it makes sense. My life is a fucking joke.
  3. I'm using Google Translate's picture function to cheat on my Chinese homework because this is a fucking ridiculous amount of work to do. I get nauseous flipping through the book sometimes trying to find these fucking characters. Who's fucking idea was it to be this far at 6 weeks in? How the goddamn shit am I supposed to know all these characters.

I barely learned how to ask where the bathroom is. I only know the characters for "I" and "No" and "Hello" I don't have the time to learn how to ask if people want to go swimming. Who goes swimming in China anyway?

It's seriously absurd. And to top it off my teacher wants to double up on the lessons this week. So instead of one workbook assignment which takes like ~6h I've got TWO and then a take home quiz (more Chinese) and a 7 page paper for another class. I'm officially calling this coming Monday 'Fuck-Me-Monday.'

If I didn't work from home or had kids or something I'd be royally fucked trying to balance this. Why can't my teacher just let us be illiterate till next semester :(

I've found radical lookup like this kind of thing: https://www.mdbg.net/chinese/dictionary?page=radicals

to be both faster and more reliable than drawing out characters or taking pictures. At least once you get the hang of it (doesn't take many times to figure out how it works). Also if haven't yet, get on making an anki deck now. Spaced repetition is like a life preserver in an endless sea of hanzi.

Not going down that road again. Stress is better than boredom and being stagnant. I'll just procrastinate instead.

Also, this is what my teacher expects us to understand:

Oh, wow, Lanny. I'd love to meet with the optimal choice among your (prior) teachers and ask them their opinion on this statement, particularly when I tell them your age, how much you have in your low fee S&P index fund and the net interest you likely receive from interest, your job (You've described the industry you work in as "Satan"), and income + bennies.

    Wonderful presumption and psychoanalysis.

Tell me, what exactly can you afford, what experiences and objects are there, that you believe would genuinely make a long-term change in my levels of happiness or alter my worldview? You genuinely assume that this is mere rationalization?

    How is THAT more helpful?

I like using the drawing sites most, they get a little tedious sometimes though.

Like I said, I really don't know that many characters. It would help so much more if my workbook had the pinyin underneath so I could associate with the hanzi instead of having to look them up pretty much one by one.

Sometimes I regret not taking Spanish. Would have been such an easy choice.

I didn't say anything about your happiness, indeed life denying philosophies can generate a lot of happiness. Why is your sense of happiness the rubric by which a philosophical position should be assessed?

Woah dude, you're a fellow aspie. I have the high score, at 40. Kinkous was second with 39. Did you see my thread? Although it is cluttered with a lot of unimportant posts. There are quite a number of members with it, it's far more common here than in the general population by a large amount (The rate is at least as low as 1/1,000). I was right, my suspicions made sense. Have you been looking information under the term adult autsim or aspergers? Searching for information on aspergers would be a lot more helpful, the info tends to be much more relevant, extensive, and higher quality.

Oh, btw, I'm also heading to university this fall to study philosophy out of personal interest. Same school as Lanny. So I won't be a complete loser forever, I'm pretty sick of being a hiki and have decisively decided to move forward. I have a ridiculous amount of other issues that aren't intrinsic to aspergers, so don't judge the outcomes on that.

What's my prediction rate now, Lanny? Probably past 50%, simply based on suspicions I considered great enough to consider the test being worth taking for the member, recommending the test for. No, I have not accused everyone of having or potentially having autsim/aspergers, you have an inaccurate impression (Lanny). I've identified numerous people that either admitted to having been diagnosed at some point, stated they likely qualified it, or actually took the test and scored within range. Asperger's is a significant enough condition, with a strong impact on your life and a wealth of information available to help understand yourself, beneficial/well thought out and supported advice that can help you manage yourself and navigate the world, live better, as has already been demonstrated to have a prevalence among our members far higher than the general population, which is exactly what I knew would the case. This isn't just basic speculation, I've read a large amount about auti*sm, a large amount of hard data, theories, who knows how many studies on neurological differences, the most valuable I could find for whatever aspect I was researching at the time.

Then what do you criticize? How does your viewpoint differ (an outline/overview will be fine)? Why do you continue to live?

Life creates a need where there was no need to be met. Universal mass suicide is the most logical thing there is.

PoC, I forgot to note this, crossed my mind around the time I first found out: I actually predicted you and Hydro years ago in TRT. I remember you responding by saying that you thought Hydro wasn't exactly the girlfriend type/the right choice for you and you didn't think about her that way. It could have been true at the time. Weed Smoker backed me up with a lol and stated that he agreed. Some time later I recall he made another post about this saying that I was right when you made a post related to Hydro or the inverse. I saw the connection.

    So, I called it.

I don't know about you but for me the drawing things just fail to identify the character drawn correctly a reasonable chunk of the time. The radical composition thing is a bit more time consuming at first but I've never been just totally unable to get to the correct character with it as with drawing.

Like I said, I really don't know that many characters. It would help so much more if my workbook had the pinyin underneath so I could associate with the hanzi instead of having to look them up pretty much one by one.

That's what I'm saying though, looking them up on demand is really hard, especially if you're trying to translate some passage. You should be dropping every character you get exposed into a flashcard deck for review. There are optimal review intervals for retention and just looking things up on demand is never going to happen with the best possible frequency. You'll be effectively reviewing common characters too frequently and uncommon ones too rarely.

I haven't offered any particular viewpoint, I'm just saying buddhism is a life denying philosophy. I guess I'll go further and assert that any philosophy that relegates essential aspects of our existence like existential anxiety of care about the world to "illusion" either abuses the term illusion or fails to understand what it is to exist in the world. Like sure, you can end suffering by not existing, either through suicide or slowly dismantling yourself through a contemplative detached philosophy, but that's not a profound insight into life, it's a near tautological observation about the absence of life. Trying to dress it up as logical is silly too. Show me the propositional structure that leads from "there doesn't need to be life" to "everyone kill yourselves".
