You establish a name whisker as you develop a rapport with a user. This is the same reason one would use the term 'fam.' As DW stated, as well, it's basically used ironically here. Like Lanny calling people 'blood niggas.'

You could also establish a name whisker as you develop a dislike of a user. I could call you "Pipsqueak", but that doesn't necessarily translate to us having any kind of friendly rapport.

That's what I'm saying. A rapport doesn't have to be friendly. A name whisker is akin to saying FAM, in that respect. You are attempting to establish a connection with the person you're directing it toward, whether it's friendly or otherwise. No?

"Fam" is very friendly. It implies a maternal bond.

I agree. Name whiskers also establish a bond.

You are deliberately diverging from the logic of it. A negative name whisker, like pipsqueak, does not imply any kind of dependency, but a positive name whisker, such as fam, does. That is the point I had made. Now, you are just trying to cloud the issue, after discovering I was correct.

Dude. Calling someone 'fam' doesn't establish any kind of dependence either.

And for them, a friendly acronym "normalizes" it, to say "It's OK. I'm OK. You're OK."

You deduced that from a few users throwing out the term FAM on this message board. "It's a mental illness to call someone 'fam.'"

Let's be honest here, what you're trying to describe is completely different than that. I can call you FAM in one post, and pipsqueak in another post. Then what?

Yes, the obvious being that saying 'fam' doesn't in any way insinuate

If it does, than so too does calling someone any name whisker. You'd have to re-word your statement a little bit to fit for that, but it's mostly the same, if we're going that route. Something like,

Why do people say 'you stupid nigger?'

It's because some people are so devoid of any kind of interpersonal relationships, they desperately need a feeling of turmoil, of being a part of some kind of defined inner circle, of having a community in which to remind others that they hate niggers. Lonely and desperate and attention-starved persons, they'll do and say anything to create "enemies" for themselves, even if it is all pretend and make-believe. It's a mental illness. And for them, a negative connotation "normalizes" it, to say "It's OK. I'm OK. You're not OK."

Ehhh.. no. Just, no. If it's any consolation, I did correct "leaves" for "leafs" in my neural-algorithm micro-banks. One of my programmers must have been drunk that morning or something.
