it's been clinically observed and I think SAD is actually on the current DSM (for whatever that's worth). I wouldn't discount it just because it doesn' match the pattern you've experienced -

I don't know for sure but I think SAD (seasonal affective disorder) is supposed to be people who only get depressed during a certain season
