5000 rockets hit Israel

also, it seems to be confirmed that the devices were APOLLO, not MOTOROLA.

APOLLO has made the statement that they no longer manufacture the pagers in question (AP-900), the design and branding is licensed to manufacturers in the EU.

unconfirmed reports from Lebanese customs indicate that the supplier was unwilling to ship directly to Lebanon so the shipment was diverted to Jordan, where it was held by customs and reshipped from there, which is likely where they were tampered with.

again unconfirmed, reports from the investigation team indicate that a specific message caused the device to short and overheat the battery which in turn caused the PETN to detonate.

***looking at the specs of the AP-900 it doesn't even use an internal lithium cell so that doesn't really make sense either. people did reportedly notice devices heating up prior to explosion though (why I assumed it wasn't C4 or another explosive that requires concussive force to detonate) so something was triggered as a detonator

    "closed" source.

i mean the pager technology has been around for like 50 years or so and by now there are just generic firmware/layout/design co-produced by hundredsof small scale producers across asia, especially in china.

"made in taiwan" stuffs have a majority of their components and designs coming in from china and is probably a generic design co-manufactured by a variety of other manufacturers.

i'll try to look for pagers on alibaba later.

if this is true then they must have moles in their upper command unless the hezs decided to announce it openly via the same compromised pager.

imagine the last the last message you get was "throw away your pager now" before it blow of.

its not easy to ship things to lebanon, with it being a warzone and insurance cost is exteremely high, coupled with houthis and a bombed out port.

I wonder what the trigger message was that would cause them to blow?

I imagine they try to make it something ironic like "Allah Akbar" or something but I imagine they type that kind of stuff to each other all the time. I wonder if one of them accidentally set one off with some obscure phrase they set and then they had to detonate before word got out.

This seems really hard to do though, I was watching Steve Lookner and as he was reading I was like.....is somebody trolling? Then I saw the videos and I was like ohhhh actual exploding pagers ok.

Behind the scenes: A former Israeli official with knowledge of the operation said Israeli intelligence services planned to use the booby-trapped pagers it managed to "plant" in Hezbollah's ranks as a surprise opening blow in an all- out war to try to cripple Hezbollah.

But in recent days, Israeli leaders became concerned that Hezbollah might discover the pagers. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his top ministers and the heads of the Israel Defense Forces and the intelligence agencies decided to use the system now rather than take the risk of it being detected by Hezbollah, a U.S. official said.

now there are more devices exploding, common thread seems to be radios, so it seems like the j*ws injected explosives into some component in the supply chain that causes a detonation when a certain frequency is received? too early to tell but it's something modular

Sounds like brilliant counter-terrorism to me.

locals are reporting it's primarily portable ICOM radios, but there have also been reports of detonations in vehicles - unclear whether it's portable radios stored in the vehicle or a car radio, all indications seem to be that lithium cells have been interfered with to contain explosives, as well as a mechanism to receive a signal to short the cell, heating it to the point where it can detonate the explosive

so the original assumption that the pager's firmware had been patched is likely incorrect; this may have happened completely without the manufacturer's knowledge.

the fact that different devices have been affected (reportedly radios, some phones, clock radios and even remote building access keypads) likely means that a common component has been compromised, the most likely culprit being the lithium cell because it'd be relatively easy to put a smaller cell in the housing and fill the void with explosive, then shorting and overheating the cell itself can act as the detonator.

if that's the case though, it'd mean that the means to receive a detonation signal would have to be in the battery pack as well, and by virtue of its size it'd have to be very simple.

it seems likely that the tampered battery pack contains a small lithium cell, an amount of explosives and a small radio antenna - no room for decoding chips or high resolution receivers or anything like that so it'd have to simply pick up a certain frequency and short the lithium cell.

it could even be that disposable AA/C/D batteries have been tampered with rather than the devices themselves.

if you're ok with the USS Liberty attack, the Lavonne Affair, the King David Hotel bombing, the extreme level of terrorism the j*ws used to drive out the locals and found their 'state', let alone the pattern of behaviour that stretches back millennia, you're just a permanent golem and there's no point in derailing the thread further to try to explain it to you

    on topic:

contrary to the hype, this phase seems to be a lot smaller than the initial pager explosions - so far the Lebanese hospital system has only reported around 100 injuries and one death.
