like kolokol i also had a smartphone when i was homeless. was posting on zoklet about it at the time.
even still...a monthly plan has to be at least $40, even for the most basic one.
who the fuck does a homeless person need to call? its not like they have a desire to be members of society in the first place. -
2017-06-18 at 5:57 AM UTCother homeless people, welfare office, drug dealers, mom, lawyers + its ideal for fb on the go.

If you use something like Ting or Mintsim, you can bring that down a lot. I pay $45 for 10GB/mo and I don't even need a tenth of that most months. -

When I was homeless I still worked full time as a machinist. My phone plan was 80/month
It's not that I wanted to be homeless. Those in my family that I could tolerate living with had no room for me, and the rest were abusive drug addicts that I couldn't stand living with. I made enough to pay rent but only barely, and if my car would've messed up i would have been totally screwed. Rent here is insane for any place even halfway decent, and I didn't have the credit for a mortgage or apartments. -

Idk, if I'm outside my house, I use WiFi, and my car has OnStar with unlimited data for in-car WiFi, and that's only $20/mo, so that takes care of any music streaming and shit. I don't have to restrict my data use at all (like, I don't think about it) and most months I end at ~1 GB used. -
2017-06-18 at 6:48 AM UTCwhat a fucked up society this is.

Internet access is vital in today's world, even for a homeless person. It can be used for maps, communicating and keeping in touch with relatives and loved ones, finding a job or gigs... And most importantly, staying sane by being able to watch videos of cats barking like dogs. 🐈 🐕
Society is fucjed, but not because homeless people have cell phones. Now if the homeless person has an iPhone or the newest Galaxy, that's a different thing entirely. -

2017-06-18 at 10:52 AM UTCyou can have texting plans for about 15$ a month. I pay 45$ a month for unlimited data, talk, and text. It's not that expensive, dude. There is also obama phones, which proved a certain amount of minutes/texts a month for people in poverty. Not sure about data, but I'm sure they can by 1-2GB for 10$ or so- I'm with straight talk and they do that, I believe. Also, wifi is free everywhere. You don't even need a plan in a lot of places. I've know people to never spend a dime on a plan but be able to use things like whatsapp, skype, and free texting service apps along with wifi to be able to stay in contact, make calls, text, video chat, torrent... whatever... it's not hard to figure it all out, dude.

Ayyy we have the same phone plan! Straight talk $45.
It's "unlimited", but they throttle after 10GB as I recall. -
2017-06-18 at 3:58 PM UTC$45 straight talk throttled after 5gb but they very recently (like 2 weeks ago) increased that to 8, for teh record.
