they seem to have used the same tactic that the Russians have, flood the air with cheap GERAN/SHAHEED drones to keep air defence busy then slip in the cruise missiles and ballistics.

israel claims to have intercepted 99% and taken 'minor damage', but the videos indicate otherwise. two major airbases, Nevatim and Ramon:

anti-air batteries appear to have been targeted:

ukraine doesnt have air-supremacy where they can use fighters to easily down the drones/cruise missiles. theyre almost literally a turkey shoot to fighters. the drones can even be engaged with helicopters and helicopter door-gunners

decoys have been a planning factor since missiles were invented

    ok, several things

1- A snapshot of a video released by the Israel air force shows the moment an air-to-air missile launched by an F-35I struck an incoming cruise missile on Oct. 31, 2023.

israeli sources. take that with a shard of monosodium glutamate,

2- Who-thee "cruise missiles". Allah knows what its spec and ballistic/linear characteristics.

3- "avaition week" sounds like some outfit paid for and run by the USMIC, so there goes with another shard of monosodium glutamate.

SHAHEDs are easy targets for anything really, point is they're worth 10-15k and most munitions used to counter them are worth more than 10x that.

also interesting point - the F-35s that bombed the Iranian embassy in Syria were launched from Nevatim. israel claims that damage was minimal but unofficial rumours are that Iran used hypersonics (their approach was more or less uncontested) and were able to totally obliterate large parts of the base, which if true would imply that high-value F-35s and other planes have been damaged and/or destroyed.

I personally still think this was not the best course of action for Iran given that israel has no future by itself and direct intervention runs the risk of involving the US and others, but it's likely it became politically necessary to commit to a serious strike to prevent allies and local populations from losing morale and faith in the 'long game'

useless to speculate without timely manner release of sat photos showing before and after shots.

That's why they use the cheapest countermeasures possible...down to helicopters using belt-fed door guns

Any birds not in the air...which should have been all of them that were flight-ready...would have been (should have been) protected deep in revetments.

The radars...sensors...transmitters...and tower should have been the first targets after aircraft.
