Apparently Trident missiles are unreliable. During the latest UK test the missile didn't get far, and nearly hit the ship the limey Defence Secretary was drinking tea on.

Trident missiles are carried on 14 american subs and 4 british ones.

That's the British version. They also can't figure out how to work an aircraft carrier

    It's called 'operator error'

the way they work...or i should say are supposed to work...is once the water-tight doors to the launch tubes are open, a 'motor' ejects it out of the tube with only enough energy to get it to clear the sub, then a 'real' motor ignites that actually shoots the flame to bring it to orbit. its the same way a MANPAD or most shoulder-fired ATGMs work with the idea being to prevent the launching sub from getting scorched by the thousands-of-degrees high velocity gasses.

like you said...the 'main' engine failed to ignite so after the fucking thing pretty much splooged out of the sub, then without any more thrust, gravity took over, and pure luck kept it from falling back onto...or into...the sub.

    fucking limeys...

This is what happened. The bit they misrepresented in the news I read was the ship the UK Defence Secretary was on when the missile almost hit it, it was the HMS Vanguard, the actual sub that launched the missile. I assumed it was a neighbouring vessel.

Making sure your missiles actually light up is kinda a big deal.

yea...and the cleanup-from a squib ICBM isnt fun for anyone. moreso when there are several nuclear-armed MIRVs scattered all over the ocean floor

I remember the same thing happened with the French in Syria, in one of the US missile attacks the French and British (maybe Germans) wanted to participate and fire a few off, the French ship spunked maybe 3 cruise missiles into the ocean in the same fashion, then sort of just sadly gave up
