on one of my deployments my assigned sleeping area was the nicest non-high-rank-officer living space on the carrier. it was in a deep area of the ship away from all machinery and traffic…meaning literally as quiet as possible to be on a ship, it was always dark, the 'heads' were ALWAYS empty…i never saw anyone in them, everyone else in the sleeping area was 'quality' as in they kept everything clean, tidy, and in good shape, it smelled good/clean (not like other sleep spaces where they smelled like grease, oil, stagnant piss or shit, or unwashed dirty ass), and it had the nicest mattresses, lights, water/showers, TV/VCRs, and furniture
i was basically my own supervisor and while i, for the most part, made my own working hours, i still had shit to do so there were countless times i literally didnt leave my work space for more than a week and slept in a bunk room…or if that was occupied, literally under or on a desk. a commander let me (ordered me) to use his office one time for a nights sleep of two hours after a debate of why i couldnt return to my quarters to sleep.
Shit sounds like a hotel. I was a submariner so slept wherever there was a spot, sometimes just a mattress in the torpedo room snuggled up to a subroc. -

That space was like a hotel. I've literally been in worse hotels
I did a TAD on an LA sub where they removed one of the upper torpedo racks and replaced it with bunks. Yea that was fun. I think they were ADCAPs...but I'm not sure. Either way...it was more explosives than I'd prefer to be bunking with -

IIRC Russia doesn't treat them as regular forces so they don't get the Geneva Convention protections, often either just executed or put on show trial if commanders get captured -

The geneva convention requires them to be treated as POWs as long as they're in uniform and part of an acknowledged military unit -

if it's the ones I'm thinking of they were traded to Turkey until the end of the war in return for other prisoners to be released (as a sort of gesture that they wouldn't be flat executed; they'd face some kind of UN tribunal), but Erdogan had them released -

yea but there like hundreds of non azov commanders that could be traded.
sending azov commanders as reserve and leverage for talks is just bad optics. especially after proclaiming that all neo nazis would be prosecuted. it reeks talking from a position of weakness. -

Putin's recently talked about how naiive he's been in terms of 'goodwill' and Lavrov just openly said there wouldn't be any more, so we'll see how that goes I guess -
