1- Those that oppose drunk driving, have you EVER done it? Do you know what it's like, personally?

2- What about drunk biking? Is that just as bad?

And if someone does kill you you could scar them for life, cause immense psychological trauma, feelings of guilt. Most people aren't a psychopath like you and would be profoundly affected by having been involved in the death of someone, even if they weren't at fault, which they'll seriously question. Particularly if there are children in the vehicle.

2. No, because you're not operating an 8 tonne metal death all going at 50mph+. So if you have a drink biking crash happens, it's probable that only your own stupid ass dies. -

Did you just answer for everyone? "We aren't retarded?" And really, it's a pretty fair question. I'm willing to bet there are a lot more people who have driven drunk a time or two than you seem to think.
That's actually pretty remarkable that you have never one time, after a few beers, figured you'd be OK to drive. I don't know if that's because you're super cautious, or you don't trust yourself, or you get fucked up real quick, I just find it interesting.
As for your 2nd point, what if, like me, many of my drinking and driving trips were driving 20 mph on a few residential back streets to a gas station or food place within 5 minutes of my home? Do you honestly thing that's as dangerous as drvng shit canned down the highway at 75mph?
I don't understand why people think driving with a buzz so dramatically increases their risk for an accident. This could honestly be applied to anything- any drugs or drink that a person takes, even in their own home, must be irresponsible because you're automatically losing cognition and impairing your own judgement, making it more likely for an accident of some sort. -

As for "oh I drive super careful when drunk diving", like maybe there actually are people in the world that are consistently safe drivers while drinking but first you have to doubt it because it's a judgment made while impaired and secondly, as has been repeated many times ITT, we ought to regulate based on the typical case, not exceptional ones. And the typical case, regardless of whatever anecdotes you want to shower down upon us, is that drunk drivers perform more poorly than sober ones.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -

I think what I'm getting at is that there seems to be something missing somewhere. It's 'SOBER DRIVING IS GOOD, ALWAYS DRIVE SOBER' to 'INTOXICATED DRIVING IS BAD, NEVER DRIVE INTOXICATED. Like as if having a few beers turns you into a fucking DEMON or some shit.
Like I said, if intoxicated driving scares someone that much, I presume that individual must not partake in intoxicated anything. You might accidentally burn your house down, or knock someone down a stairway. If a few ales makes it DRASTICALLY unsafer to drive, then it applies to everything else. Even if you're alone, not harming anyone, and you misjudge and slip on the bathroom floor and crack your skull open, you have just hurt a lot of family and friends who cared and loved you.
Do you ever worry about that Lanyard, that when you're drunk cooking you'll have a bad accident? -

I don't think anyone has said "driving after a few beers turns you into a fucking DEMON". People have said it's a shitty thing to do, because it statistically increases your chances of killing someone. And even if it doesn't in your case, we should regulate it because evidence suggests that in general it does.
It seems like you're tacitly admitting it's not a great idea and it's the vehemence of the response it gets that you take issue with. Which like, I'm not sure how we're supposed to go about addressing that. Do you want to sit down and file adjectives into the "fair description of intoxicated driving" and "otherwise" bins? There are a lot of things you probably shouldn't be doing while drunk. I do end up cutting myself a lot more often when drunk cooking than sober cooking. But ultimately it takes pretty extravagant scenarios before doing the things I do drunk end up in seriously injuring someone else or resulting in serious property damage to others, at least significantly more than driving drunk represents. Cars are heavy machinery that go way faster than we as a species have any evolutionary history of going. They are, by far, more physically dangerous than anything else I interact with day to day, I think the same is true for most people, with the exception of their own cars. -
