A.) "Alcohol impairs your judgement and self-perception"

B.) "I drive fine/better when drunk/buzzed, based on no objective measure."

I never said I drive better. It just takes a significant amount before I drive 'worse.' This may not be true for everyone. Was I just lucky the thousands of times I drove with a buzz? Just a magic coincidence I went 2000/2000 drunk driving with no accidents? Crazy!

Regardless of danger, I'd keep this in mind if I were you

^ Agree. Plus if your driving totally fine but a few points over .08 and get involved in an accident that wasn't at all your fault you'll be blamed fully and be fucked, which is why I don't do it anyone and hope mmQ quits doing while he's (sort of) ahead.

One-third of car crashes in the US are due to drunk driving. But I guess you're special just like everybody else who feels like they're okay to drive drunk.

Yes! I anticipated that argument, and it's something I wanted to address. It's all a matter of probability. The probability of getting into an accident (Greatly affected by your driving habits. How much do you generally drive, what's the usual distance like, traffic, residential vs business areas, do you take the highway? etc.) at any time is pretty low to begin with. Even if being under the influence increased the risk manyfold, you may still go a long time without serious incident.

It's not as if driving while drunk, especially if you've had a good amount of practice, which allows you to adjust to the state to some extent (still dangerous), is guaranteed to lead to an accident, regardless of all the various factors I mentioned. Every drunk driver was likely the same. Until the point where they actually killed someone or themselves, caused a serious accident and injuries.

Hey mmQ, didn't you already go to jail for a DUI, or was that something else?

I literally do not drive drunk anymore just so you know.

Basically my opinion on the matter is that the stigma behind it is vastly unjustified and mostly parroted, much like hebe/pedophilia.

Yep. I have multiple DUIs for the record. Minus one absolutely legit one, the other 2 were within 2 blocks of my destination and I was pulled over for a wide turn. I passed both their field sobriety tests before blowing barely over the legal limit.

I know you're just trying to point something about but saying 'ha! See! You got a DUI!' isn't an argument against responsible drunk driving.

Damn, you drive drunk and prey on children?

If you were pulled over multiple times, maybe you were driving far worse than you thought you were?

I realize you don't want me to embarrass you in a debate so you're resorting to this, and that's fine. I completely get it. :)

I once went on a ride along with a police officer and we spent the day finding any reason to pull people over- no blinker, wide turn, drove on center line, incomplete stop, etc. Shit that almost everyone is guilty of on occassion. They don't pull you over because they assume you're drunk, especially with something like a wide turn. Lol.

For that matter I suppose it's noteworthy that I've driven intoxicated both alongside, in front of, and behind police cruisers with no problems.

Again, this isn't about me thinking I'm some kewl Joe who's the best drunk driver around town bro. It's about how I, like almost all, can drive intoxicated and very minimally increase the potential risk for an accident relates to said intoxicated driving.

It's that simple. It really is. The statistics are blown out of proportion. There's a lot more to it than 'alcohol related accident.' Hell they'll say that even when the at fault driver was the one not drinking.
