for some perspective...i was in the adriatic/med for the yugoslavia war and the med/persian gulf for one of husseins little tantrums...and throughout all that there was literally about 1/4 blue forces (friendlies) as are deployed now in that area. -

Wasn't a B2 struck and cartwhelled in Yugoslavia? The pilot ejected safely and pulled a databoard then rescued ? I kind and of remember it looking like a firework that spun on the news.. some serb got video of it -

it was an F117. i think the way they shot it down was classified because of the way the yugos managed to lock a SAM radar onto it. they chopped it into pieces and sold it to the highest bidders. i guarantee a lot of russian and chinee were doing a lot of orifice donations during that time frame. -

the US story is that the bomb bay doors were locked open which created a larger radar signature, the Russian story is that its 'stealth' coating just wasn't that stealthy and could be picked up by modern radar -

since the Yemenis won't let them transit by sea anymore the Saudis are now transferring oil to israel overland, so it seems he hasn't yet made any decisions about cutting ties -

it was more akin to the yugo commander figured out a way to work the SAM tracking radar, the fire control radar...instead of the search radar to find the plane...what it wasnt designed to do...which allowed the missile an illuminated target. -

I was under the impression the fire control radar was much narrower, like a laser, needed to be fed the general area the target was in from the search radar
I guess if the plane was flying low and close enough they could manually direct it? -

youre exactly right. the pencil-thin beam is (usually) unable to 'find' a target because its so focused...but more powerful (in the area illuminated.) the search radar is 'weaker' because its covering such a wide area...and why the stealth aircraft can evade it. the F117 couldnt evade the tight beam of the fire control radar so by using the fire control radar to 'find' the F117 it was able to guide a SAM into it -
