Depends if you are baptised and repentant. The goal of the catholic life is to be baptised which ensures grace and you maintain that grace through confession, penance, other church things like gib dems money and save a few souls.
Catholics just going about their day living a normal life being moral say they are "Shooting for purgatory" but ask any monk and that is simply not enough, you have a lifetime of sin you haven't made up for and something something church grace the keys to heaven.
I think what you are describing is more similar to Lutheranism which is basically the same except the grace is GUARANTEED LIFETIME WARRANTY BY JESUS DYING FOR YOUR SINS
