The soviets tried to do something similar, although intending to be detrimental, with their .310 bullets vs the NATO .308 bullets...but they tested it out and the .310 bullets were so 'light' they tended to swage down in the high-quality .308 barrels.

the entire point of that system is that it's light enough to be moved around by helicopter so they made the frame out of titanium and stripped as much down as possible; the liquid cooling is because they made the barrel so lightweight that it can't disperse heat normally unless you only fire it a couple of times an hour.
it was ridiculous to send them to ukraine; the ones that didn't get immediately scrapped and sold off as raw titanium went all floppy after a few minutes of sustained fire -
