Fuck that noise. Niche interests and wanting to be social about them is not a clinical illness. Fucking hypochondriac society, gotta medicalize every deviation in personality, a civilization that's decided it's easier to pathologize every failure to either socialize or integrate members of society than admit systematic or personal failings. Sheepishly we say "oh, I was feeling anti-social this weekend" when we don't want to hang out with friends. The reason I didn't want to see your stupid ass was because I have a personality disorder, of course! There's no room in our society any more for being a prick, or quiet, or awkward. Instead we all have anger management issues, social anxiety, and autism. Wow, amazing, my life is so much better ever since replacing my personality with a collection of diseases and medications. Fucking amazing. -

I'm the same way in groups of people I'm not familiar with but for the reason that when I say something I won't enhancement it.
In public, with people I don't know, I generally give single word answers or replies, purely out of generosity because I have no compunction whatsoever with saying whatever I believe will cause the most hate and discontent with my target audience. if someone behaves in a manner I don't consider appropriate, I then drop the facade and let it flow.
for example...I was coming out of Walmart last week, carrying a bag with about $900 worth of camera crap that i had just paid for. the fucktard cashier didn't turn off the beeping thingy so as I was going out the door, it went apeshit. I was in a particularly good mood...and the geriatric standing by the door seemed a nice enough sort...so I stopped, and showed her my receipt...still holding my $900 bag of shit. she looked at it...rummaged thru the bag...then tried to pull it away from me. I told her no. she said she had to deactivate the beeping thingy, taking out the $200-something camera, I said no you don't this is my property. that is when another yellow vested person came up, took my receipt and one of the cameras, from her and went back to the 'service desk' and behind it, whereupon I followed her, she said I can't be back there, to which I replied 'the hell I cant, this is my shit' in a loud enough voice to where it was now becoming a public spectacle. they wanted to take the other camera and stuff in my bag and my reply was fairly emphatic, and they caught the hint violence was the next step, so the one chick said 'have a nice day' and I walked out...saying they can be guarandamnteed I wouldn't be stopping for their stupid ass beeping shit again. there were a few colorful expletives added in there....the specifics of I can't recall right now.
fun fact: legally a shopper does not have to stop if a beeping thingy goes off. it is purely consentual and there are no legal statutes, at least in my state, giving a merchant permission to detain someone solely on a beeper thingy going off.

of course one trait isnt enough to claim someone has a disorder. have you really never met someone and realized "this person is definitely autistic." it is a brain disorder that in pervasive in all domains of behavior. i agree that personality disorders are bullshit. there's a good article about how law imposes slavery on citizens, and most mental disorders just arise out of "law-integration disorder" where there is a disconnect between a person and ((juden)) which allows them to develop a "mental illness". i believe the DSM is a part of liberal culture to be honest, the same way they go about labeling themselves all sorts of retarded genders and sexual orientations. but there's no doubt, whether you want to call it a disorder or not, that there are specific phenotypes of brain development that should and can be labeled. to not do this would be ignorant that we are an animal species who has defectives, including mentally.
heres the article https://ieet.org/index.php/IEET2/more/Nygren20170602
someone who deals weed even after being arrested can be diagnosed with "antisocial personality disorder". because society must be perfect so the individual must be wrong. psychopathy however, has structural brain changes evident under an MRI, in vital signs, etc. that is the difference. a social label to let one be controlled, and an extreme deviation in brain development. im not a psychopath and the condition is incredibly rare, but you get my point. most people who say they are, are just buying into this self labeling culture as you say of ego-defenses and a need to be pathologized to be "different and unique" in some way, shape, or form -

You're a funny guy sometimes, Lanny.
This reminds me of you blaming being socially awkward on having played too many videogames as a kid. That was literally your excuse. -
2017-06-04 at 10:21 PM UTCinfinityschock, you definitely may be on the spectrum. It would explain the repetitiveness and consistency of your gimmick/posting style (Although simple OCD could also explain this). There are multiple other things that make me suspect this.
You should take the test: https://niggasin.space/thread/11907 -

Why do you appear to have a strong propensity toward alcoholism and have stated that you find benzos to be "concerningly" enjoyable?
Do you really see this as a critical, positive, aspect of your personality that you would always want to retain, or are you simply engaging in rationalization?
What of you simply exist in a sub-optimal state, which may well have a neurological basis? The most common causes being differences in the GABAergic system, even the amygdala. Wouldn't it explain why you seem to respond so well to alcohol and benzos? You wouldn't need to be on something all the time, but you should consider that phenibut and a good benzodiazepine, such as clonazolam, could greatly improve your enjoyment of social events, even just things that require you to be around a large number of people, events that produce a lot of "noise" (Not referring exclusively to sound.). Of course you've experienced how remarkably pro-social 4-FA can be, to the point where you can end up drugging 16 year old jail bait and hitting on them. -

Are these really the only two explanations for a trait of character you can imagine? Either something "good" or anyone who accepts it as a part of themselves is rationalizing? Does it not even occur that one might own their faults?

Sure. I don't deny psychological states can be pathological, nor the possibility of physiological basis for psychological variation in humans. The issue I take is with the line we draw between pathological and acceptable natural deviation. This line is inherently social, even if the behaviors it divides have physiological basis, what constitutes a maladaptive trait is heavily dependant on the society a person exists in. Physical aggressiveness is generally maladaptive in modern western societies while passivity would be devastating in other contexts. But the size of the set of maladaptive traits is not fixed, we can imagine societies that tolerate more and less deviance in what it considers a psychologically well adapted person.
This seems pretty uncontroversial so far. I'll offer the further normative claim that modern western society has created an excessively narrow definition of psychological health in a gradual trend following the professionalization of clinical psychological practice. It's hard to imagine a society where general tolerance psychopathy is going to be beneficial, but it at least seems like we don't get any real social benefit (although perhaps an economic benefit for some) out making diseases out of the traits mentioned earlier. -

Hahaha. Alright.
We do probably attract a higher rate of psychological deviants, but aside from Lanny looking somewhat like a sperg, I haven't seen too much evidence of legitimate autism. -

diagnoses aren't set, real things. a person shouldn't say "i have disorder x", they should say, only if the behavior is causing pathology for society and self, "i have/have been in a state of x". diagnosis should mean "current maladaptive behavior", but if it's a continuous, pervasive maladaptive behavior, a label can categorize someone well enough that they receive treatment based on their neurology, at least in the near future. and of course by treatment i mean "fuction in oppressive society", but living in a shitty world in a medicated state of contentment brings more net benefit to the individual level than continuously suffering and increasing anomie. the other options are to live in a jungle, do a mass shooty cutie, or try to influence politics with an ideology you believe is more helpful. -
