lol, US navy picked up the implosion as they were descending (using passive sonar meant to detect military submarines) but didn't bother to tell the search party for the last few days

because that would reveal they were there.
they're now saying that they notified the search party right after it happened, but there was no search party at that time - it imploded around the same time comms went out and they didn't assume catastrophic failure until later

funny this can be both a projection and an insight at the same time.

i didnt know and wasnt following the whole thing, honestly i dont understand whats so appealing about this story. 5 billionaire drove off a cliff in their SUV and couldnt be found for days .... no one gives a shit. except maybe their families.

like how is this different.
I think it's kind of funny that in this case the billionaire driver actually built the SUV and did it in the cheapest and most retarded way possible, and convinced people to pay $250k each to ride in it
then when it went over the cliff it created a pretty spectacular explosion

I'm pretty sure I watched that as a kid but don't remember anything about it.
The Sphere still makes me angry, a bunch of scientists find a weird rippling sphere thing on the ocean floor and immediately come under attack from the things they most fear. they eventually realise that the sphere gave them the power to imagine things into reality, and they keep creating bad things because they're isolated at the bottom of the ocean and under a lot of stress. they resolve this by using the power to forget that they have the power.
similarly, I remembered recently that I was terrified of the movie The Rift when I was like 8, so I looked it up and immediately felt extreme shame for being afraid of this:
