it does appear to have happened outside of a combat zone but beyond that it's hard to verify anything about the story

it was a small incursion that got wiped in a matter of hours; it'll take more than 30 men shooting up a border town to have any effect on the course of the war. I've seen a lot of people trying to talk up a 'Russian civil war', but if there was some sort of actual grassroots/domestic armed insurrection they wouldn't be attacking from the Ukraine. -
