I forgot about this
x-band radar creates a very distinct pattern that's easily visible from satellite and high altitude aerial surveillance if you have the capability to pick up the right frequencies, even if the radar is in passive mode
there was a big thing a few years back when Google stopped making raw satellite data available because people found they could track every PATRIOT radar in the world with the correct signal fi'lter -

why does it matter ?
doesnt stop peers or near peers from having the info.
who are they trying to hide it from. -
2023-05-18 at 3:55 AM UTCcruise missiles being lobbed at Kiev, a bunch of x-101s and KALIBRs so far. guess we'll see if the PATRIOTs are still operating.
or not, supposedly six people were arrested for posting on social media about the PATRIOTs last time -

sandy people who don't have satellites I guess
probably wouldn't do them much good outside of a general idea though considering Google just released the raw data in batches every year or so, it wasn't a constantly updating stream or anything -

no word on this, but the Russian MoD's now claimed that they have in fact destroyed a PATRIOT radar system, no media to prove or disprove it yet though -
2023-05-18 at 1:09 PM UTCWell the would say that wouldn't they.

sounds plausible.

actually a very good article
a few interesting bits and pieces in there too, like the decoys in the ISKANDER (and presumably KINZHAL) body, and the observation that they slow down enough to lose the plasma before impact - this explains the rumours that the first few times they were used, the AFU was only able to detect them in the last seconds before getting hit -

yea, i realize what i thought i knew about these hypersonics were all wrong.
do these hypersonics still need correction signals if they are flying on inertial guidance. -
2023-05-18 at 3:26 PM UTCdepends on the circumstance, inertial guidance is 'accurate' but not as accurate as satellite or active radiation/thermal etc.
in some cases missing by 10m matters, in others it doesn't, there are probably atmospheric conditions that fuck up calculations too -

if hypersonics dont fly at hypersonic speed upon impact then the march/april bombing of underground bunker that killed 40 AFU and NATO command could be fake ? -

they have been used to hit underground ammo dumps and bunkers so they do have some level of penetrating power, no idea how they compare to regular 'bunker busters' though considering there isn't any data available.
I never actually believed that rumour, original claim was ~500 NATO staff but that's a huge number given how few actual soldiers (mostly trainers and technicians, not considering mercenaries) are in the country, and there was never any sort of evidence given for it -

its something that can never be verified even if true because theyre all burried.
hopefully more will be launched in the coming days. -
