I bet he'd hire them at $2.50hr to pick fruit on his acreage though.

The feds presented my dad with a certificate of US citizenship and an American flag. They also thanked him for all the taxes he's contributed to their coffers over the years.

They did give me an American flag too, lol. A little one on a stick in the "Welcome package"...other items included: Voter registration card, passport application, pledge of alliance on a little card to read during the ceremony (of course I didn't need it), and a booklet which I didn't even look at so don't know what it's about.

ETA: Oh and a copy of the constitution.

The Indian chick sitting next to me started crying (I assume with happiness), I offered her my handkerchief and assured her it was unused...she thanked me, used it and then offered it back...I said "keep it".

Talk about doing this country right... my dad is the prototype of how to properly immigrate to the United States... and how to behave, once you are here. America is grateful for your presence, Pops. Thanks for choosing us. If every immigrant did it like you do, there would be virtually no opposition to immigration.

I'm surprised they still had the Pledge of Allegiance on there... I thought that they were phasing that out. Seems like a nice occasion. It is an important deal..
so strong emotions, I think, are certainly appropriate. Better than these God damn fucking land grabbing beaners who just hop the fence and then start seeking work. Did you ask the Feds what took so goddamn long?

I'm so glad that the ceremony went well, and that, they , you know, even had it... its an important formality that needed to be taken care of...

The pledge was in two parts, first the judge reads out a declaration about things like promising to take up arms to defend the US etc to which we said "I Do" while holding our right hand up, then the traditional pledge of allegiance which everyone had to say, then stand (we already were for the other two parts) for the national anthem.

Then everyone was clapping and cheering and the Indian woman next to me was crying.

As far as it taking long, that was really on me, I could have applied for citizenship 22yrs ago...but I left it till this year to do it. No particular reason really, my Green card was expiring this year and it was either renew it for aother 10yrs for $600 or do the citizenship for $800. I figured I'd do it this time around though because I'm getting old(er) and don't want to be pissing around with immigration shit in another 10yrs.

So you are now officially a U.S. citizen?

Congratulations or sorry, don't know which one to say to you lmao. I think that probably depends on what part of the U.S. you reside in
