    I think civilisation-level self destruction has happened multiple times in the past and will continue to happen in the future

    ideas like reincarnation and samsara allude to it if you don't assume it's the individual flesh that's reincarnated

    ancient texts and scriptures that talk about wars in heaven, flying war machines and nuclear weapons are based on oral traditions passed down for tens or hundreds of generations by people who'd never seen the tail-end of civilisation and only had shadows of stories of the last days

    Almost certainly the case, and staving off the self-destruction is particularly vital now because the next time might be the last: how likely are we to rediscover oil and unlock the entire oil tech tree again after all the easiest, most profitable oil has already been extracted? If we lose our current civilization, that may be it for our species. Stuck on this rock forever, because we simply used too many resources getting through the tech tree once before.

    I like the idea of deep time and lost history with ancient nuclear wars, and I don't necessarily think any of that is impossible, but there's only so much that I can suspend my disbelief. There's only so much that the passage of time can obscure. We have compelling evidence for our evolution on this planet so it cannot have happened on some other planet we sought refuge from and we cannot have come from space, and such wars leave scars. There would be evidence. Especially of nuclear war - the greater the destruction wrought by nuclear weapons required to wipe evidence of past civilizations away, the greater the radiological evidence we would (and do not) find.

    I hate him too. I punched him once. That apu meme gave me a nice schizo moment because I really do be believing I channeled my rage and mortal impotence into a single fist and thrust it in the face of "god" during a prior schizo moment. I didn't make that meme! So 99999999998 or 99999999999 more fuckers like me throwing psychic haymakers his way, and we just might be free of his grasp one day. One day.

    (This assumes, of course, that the archaeological record and evolutionary science can be trusted. Maybe there are lies and half truths sprinkled throughout to obscure the truth. Maybe we are relegated to this planet, in ignorance, as punishment. Maybe we came from space. Maybe we had nuclear wars here. Maybe they're just lying. I hate the demiurge, but I also hate humanity. We do be lyin'.)

    (Or that reality is even real. Can't forget that. All just a goofy simulation teaching us about the AI apocalypse we nearly avoided, or an emulation of us by a mournful or simply curious AI, recreating what organic life was life.)

    they're rumours of rumours, they could be referring to some other type of high-energy bombs; thermobarics or something we haven't even worked out yet. that said, the longevity of nuclear fallout is often overstated - if you set off a nuclear bomb the fallout will persist for decades in a vacuum, but in reality it disperses in the environment a lot more quickly, especially if steps are taken to mitigate it. just turning the topsoil (the majority of radioactive material settles on the surface) dramatically reduces the period where the area is uninhabitable.

    I wonder if there are remnants of old civilisations buried deep underground or shot onto dead moons around the solar system where natural erosion would take much longer to eat them up.

    I think the accuracy of the 'established timeline' is overstated

    there are plenty of instances where countries like Egypt and Turkey have refused to allow investigation, ostensibly because they think it could threaten the greatness of their established histories and foundational myths

    Because my mom has rheumatoid arthritis, we have 3 pets together and things in general like household tasks, chores, trips to the store etc would become far more difficult on her, and I don't want to do that to her.

    I think I keep playing the same songs in my head and in the computers head when I capture the mood of a time and I double down on that like yes this is the season of soemthing and I try to distill meaning from these themes because sometimes I end up with Madonna for my sexy party summer, or KirbLaGoop for whatever this season is. MY estimate of essence distillery;

    “She had open arms, she had wounds and scars. Telling me it didn’t matter what behind bars”. That’s a legitimately beautiful line. Glad I came back to this song after 3 years. Forgot how good it was
