Russia was totally fucked from around 1990 to 2008 to the point where natural energy resources were their only major industry and neither the people nor the state saw any benefit from their sale.
today they're almost totally autarkic, to the point where the outside world could disappear and they'd still be able to chug along indefinitely -

they are not autarkic if they want to live like a normal human being in the 21st century. russians have no skills or knowhow to manufacture cheap consumer goods like china does. their products are inferior and costly and theyre reliant on former soviet satelite countries for their advanced manufactured goods.
the funny outcome from the latest US led sanction is that every bussiness entity and corporation along with their marketshare that was made available to the west during the perestroika period is now being vacated and being filled up by china and its industry.

Slavs in general are really lazy and resistant to change. They're basically like blacks, except the wrong colour. They aren't generally interested in working hard making commodity items, unless it's something like tanks.
Most of the crap in markets in Ukraine sell cheap Chinese clothes and other Chinese junk. I think China and Russia could go their own way, since Russia has the land and the resources, and China has the factories. -
