yeah the main importance of Bakhmut is that the AFU uses that highway to the north to supply the entire front line, losing it would cause them major logistical problems.
much of the media tries to downplay the significance of Bakhmut but if it weren't significant, the AFU wouldn't be redirecting so much of it's manpower there - they've even abandoned the planned offensive toward the ZPP to divert forces
