   but that's beside the point. orphaned coins play no role in setting the price of btc. at best, they might create the illusion of confidence in the currency, since you can't know that a wallet's private key has been lost.
   
   btc it's unlikely to actually go to zero, but it can tank independent of the number of coins on the ledger.
