I'm not sure what the plan is with these referenda. The majority, if not all of the affected regions will vote to join Russia which effectively moves the border West, and it makes sense that the new 300k are meant to lock the new regions down and secure the borders... But those new troops won't be combat-ready for at least a month.

Putin's latest speech made clear that any of those territories who chose to join the RF would be protected under Russian strategic and nuclear doctrine (nuclear weapons may only be used in the case of an existential threat to any part of the federation), but the Ukraine is (officially) non-nuclear and likely no longer has the capability to launch further counteroffensives without the open use of NATO troops.

It seems to me that the war is going to get quite a bit broader.

On the topic of mobilisation, the law that the Duma accepted is very broad. The 300k currently being called up are all drawn from veterans with professional military contracts, but it allows for conscripts (ie. regular people who've done their year of mandatory service) to be called in the future if deemed necessary. The broadness of the law is the reason for most serious (not astroturfed) protests and opposition

projections are 1-3, but like I said these guys are supposed to be drawn from veterans so they don't need to be trained from scratch

    statements are useless.

remember how theyre denying buying and deploying iranian shaheed 139 or something and then we start seeing shaheed-like "russian" suicide drones.

    ja.

I'm not sure what the plan is with these referenda. The majority,

just like everywhere else. a rubberstamp of "democratically chosen" ... thing.

It seems to me that the war is going to get quite a bit broader.

    it should.

lol, they're just regular Russian drones. Why would they buy drones from Iran when their own are far more advanced and they have a much larger manufacturing base for them?

The reason Iranian drones have a reputation is the same as Turkey, they're effective and well-integrated at a much lower price point, but they cannot compete with the stuff the US, EU and Russia churn out in terms of capability.

Just over 350 people arrested across the country; they're not exactly massive protests
  19. It's enough, they don't generally arrest people for bullshit reasons in Russia.
