anyone using nukes will put an immediate end to MAD, after which there's no line between nuclear and conventional weapons so nuclear countries will just start popping them off in conflicts for lulz.
That's why ((certain think-tanks)) have been talking about tactical (vs strategic) nuclear weapons these last few years - 'if the nuke is small enough it shouldn't count' -

Presumably Russians can do that thing where they refuse to cross the border, since war still hasn't been declared and the old border to Ukraine still requires you to get your passport stamped.

I don't know if I fully buy the line that they intentionally turned it into a war of attrition because of their massive standoff advantage with the goal of depleting NATO's stockpiles, but who knows - in terms of goals the only things that they've made public are what they intend to do with the Ukraine, not the wider strategic situation with NATO and the 'butthurt belt'
i think the whole point of the SMO was to destroy ukraines offensive capabilities and force them to curl up like a bitch and say peace.
putin failed to emphatize with jéwlensky and how jéwished he was in the sense that hes willing to dispose all ukrainians into the meat grinder, woodchipper or whatever hip things its called. i think he failed to realize jéwlinskys loyalty is to the state of jéwsrael.
like i said, the whole flaw of this SMO is that putin tried to be the good guy, and as a matter of law, wars will always favor the scummy. putin lacked the scumminess to succeed.
he should have :
1- recognize the independence of LDNR.
2- fast track these 2 new allies into CSTO. doesnt matter if the motion was approved in time or not, its the intention that mattered.
3- wait patiently for AFU to launch their attack on LDNR just like how the US waited for 9/11 and pearl harbor before that. sure, some civilians will die, but i dont think they are going to die more than they are dying in the current SMO.
4- if and when the AFU started to attack LDNR russia can either summon the collective "peace" keeping force of the CSTO or go alone to defend LDNR.
5- of course they will be blow back and russians/LDNR are going to blame putin and russian intelligence for failing to detect and prevent an attack on LDNR, which putin can easily apologize by saying he was wrong to have acted in good faith that the rapid accension of LDNR into the CSTO alone was enough to prevent such an occurence.
6- go all out/in a full blown war instead of half assed SMO.
7- deny any hostile country all energy export.
8- accept nothing less than unconditional surrender. -
