2022-09-10 at 11:20 AM UTCUpdate:
The AFU's Kherson offensive was a disaster, even the unit commanders are reporting eating at least 5:1 casualties when they weren't just getting pounded with artillery. This WAPO article reveals a few interesting things:
https://archive.ph/pX1pK
Specifically that many of the field commanders involved aren't even professional military or have no command experience, speaking to the state of mobilisation. Recently many of the tankers and their commanders captured by Russian forces have been retired military, some of them over 60 years old.
After Kherson the AFU tried another offensive at Izium, but there's still not a whole lot of information about that. AFU sources are reporting that Russian forces have pulled back and they've been able to push around 50km with minimal fighting, so it's likely the Russians are trying to set up a cauldron.
Fighting-age women are now banned from leaving the country and facing the draft in a few weeks; all-female units have already been sent to the front. -

2022-09-10 at 6:30 PM UTCThey should all get in the army and then kill all the leaders. Would be some bad-ass poetic justice right there.

I just read this here https://en.interfax.com.ua/news/general/857142.htmlNo bans on women traveling abroad to be introduced from Oct 1 – Defense Ministry
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has prepared an order by which it postponed the deadlines for registering women for military registration for a year, until October 1, 2023. The relevant order on Tuesday, September 6, was signed by Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, the ministry's press service said.
The weird wording makes me think they're weaseling, but might just be down to translation. -

They walked it back. The original statement was that it was mandatory for women in specific fields to sign up for 'volunteer' military service by October 1 2022 or to face prosecution, and that anyone signed up for 'volunteer' service was banned from leaving the country. The fields seemed to be a combination of those needed in the military (engineering, medical, logistics etc.) and a bunch deemed unnecessary during wartime. They justified it by saying they were moving toward NATO standards, lol.
I'll go find the original release -

Apparently it was actually proposed back at the end of 2021, before the war, but they're getting a lot more pushback now because under normal circumstances women are typically placed in support and administrative rather than combat roles. The state of mobilisation means that's much less likely now, and even support or logistics staff are likely to see some degree of combat out east where they're needed.

Looks like power outages across East Ukraine over the past while, though it's hard to be sure.
If true it's about time Russia stopped being retarded and allowing their enemy uninterrupted electricity and internet. It's retarded to limit yourself to killing huge amounts of conscripts and economic de-facto conscripts while not even bothering to knock off your opponents electricity and internet. -

This offensive has been prepared for a while - it's possible that the southern Kherson offensive was a decoy or feint to draw Russian forces away from the larger northern offensive, but if it was it was a pretty sick thing to do considering they lost around 2000 soldiers and a lot of equipment on that front alone.
Here's a video from a reporter embedded with Russian forces up north near Izium:
Key takeaways:
- The strike force was between 10-30k men strong, was fully equipped with NATO weapons and led by western commanders
- Their goal was to use a pincer attack to encircle the Russian forces, and since the Russians couldn't match their numbers they were forced to retreat to dense artillery and MLRS on the East side of the river
- New reserves have been moved in (numbers not given) to try to push back the AFU (the new reserves seem to bear a new symbol, not the standard Z or V)
I've personally noticed a HUGE information warfare campaign since the counteroffensives started too; Telegram channels are saturated with gore purportedly of dead Russian soldiers and doomposting, a similar thing is happening in comment sections on blogs and pro-Russian news sites, even on the chans -

interesting
there are videos floating around that supposedly show Russian attacks on power plants but it's often impossible to tell who fired the rockets or if they're even current videos -
2022-09-12 at 6:09 AM UTCactually there's a lot more now, energy infrastructure around Kharkov is definitely getting hammered.
Khmelnytsky and South Ukrainian nuclear power stations (both held by Ukrainian forces) have been reportedly disconnected from the power grid.
Kremenchug thermal power station is on fire.
